The Central Valley regulates several types of confined animal facilities, including dairies, feedlots, poultry facilities, and horse facilities. The Confined Animal Facility Program primarily focuses on dairies. Over 1,400 dairies are located in the Central Valley. On 3 October 2013, the Regional Board adopted Reissued Waste Discharge Requirements General Order for Existing Milk Cow Dairies, Order No. R5-2013-0122, 2.61 MB*, PDF (PDF Info). This Order rescinds and replaces General Order R5-2007-0035 which the board originally issued on 3 May 2007. This order serves as general waste discharge reuqirements for discharges of waste from existing milk cow dairies of all sizes. This Order includes requirements for both the dairy production area and land application area and requires each dairy to fully implement their Waste Management Plan and the Nutrient Management Plan.
