Discharge Types
Category 1
- A discharge of sewage which (1) equals or exceeds 1000 gallons, or (2) a discharge of sewage to a surface water and/or drainage
channel, or (3) a discharge of sewage to a storm drain that was not fully captured and returned to the sanitary sewer system. Category
1 spills represent a greater threat to public health.
Category 2
- Any discharge of sewage which does not meet the criteria for Category 1. Category 2 spills represent a lesser threat to public
health.
