SWAMP - Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program
SITE-SPECIFIC MONITORING
The overall goal of site-specific monitoring is to develop on sites that are: 1) known or suspected to have water quality problems; and 2) known, or suspected to be clean. This portion of the program is focused on collecting information from sites in water bodies of the State that could potentially be listed or delisted under CWA Section 303(d). Regional Boards are given significant flexibility to select the specific locations to be monitored. At their discretion, Regional Boards may perform monitoring at clean sites to determine baseline conditions, or if this information is needed to place problem sites into perspective with cleaner sites in the Region.
The site-specific monitoring portion of the Surface Water Ambient Monitoring Program (SWAMP) is currently being implemented. Details on the monitoring designs, methods, etc. are available in each Region's workplans.
