State and Regional Board Internship Opportunities
The mission of the State Water Resources Control Boards’ is to preserve, enhance, and restore the quality of California’s water resources and drinking water for the protection of the environment, public health, and all beneficial uses, and to ensure proper water resources allocation and efficient use, for the benefit of present and future generation. With delegated authority from the State Legislature, the State Water Board and nine Regional Water Quality Control Boards (‘Regional Water Boards’) (together, “Water Boards’) employ a variety of water quality, water rights, and drinking water programs to ensure the protection of California’s water resources.
The State Water Resources Control Boards’ Internship Program offers both paid and non-paid internship opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students of all majors and backgrounds and is designed to provide students who have an interest in California’s water resources with a practical real-world experience. Internships are available to students during the winter, spring, summer and fall semesters.
Our internships may qualify for academic credit and are coordinated between the student and school. Interns' hours vary and are dependent on the needs of the Water Boards and the intern. If you are a student interested in water resources, an internship in the Water Boards may be just what you are looking for.
