Heavenly Mountain Resort Epic Discovery Project

The US Forest Service (USFS), Lake Tahoe Basin Management Unit (LTBMU); the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency (TRPA); and the California Regional Water Quality Control Board - Lahontan Region (Lahontan Water Board) have directed the preparation of a joint environmental document for the Heavenly Mountain Resort Epic Discovery Project. The document is an environmental impact statement (EIS) for the LTBMU prepared pursuant to the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA); an EIS for TRPA pursuant to the Tahoe Regional Planning Compact, Code of Ordinances, and Rules of Procedure; and an environmental impact report (EIR) for the Lahontan Water Board pursuant to the California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA).

The Epic Discovery Project is intended to enhance summer activities in response to the USDA Forest Service Ski Area Recreational Opportunity Enhancement Act of 2011. The Lahontan Water Board will consider adopting the final EIR in the spring 2015 along with revised Waste Discharge Requirements for operations at Heavenly Mountain Resort.
