Wildlife Bioaccumulation Monitoring Survey

The Bioaccumulation Monitoring Program’s wildlife bioaccumulation monitoring survey focused on the development and demonstration of methods for monitoring mercury in two closely related avian wildlife species (grebes) widely distributed across California's lakes and reservoirs. Monitoring mercury in blood and eggs proved to be a particularly effective technique for obtaining estimates of methyl mercury exposure and risk for wildlife across these water bodies. The study also provided guidance on the prey fish monitoring that is needed to support estimations of wildlife risk when wildlife cannot be directly sampled. Wildlife Study monitoring occurred in 2012 and 2013.
