Subject: CALIFORNIA REGIONAL WATER QUALITY CONTROL BOARD - LOS ANGELES REGION METHYL TERTIARY BUTYL ETHER (MTBE) REPORTING REQUIREMENT SB 592

Pursuant to Water Code Section 13272.1, we are transmitting the enclosed report to all public water system operators within the jurisdiction of the California Regional Water Quality Control Board-Los Angeles Region. The report lists new discharges of MTBE and the locations where MTBE was detected in surface water, soil and/or groundwater and covers the period from October 24, 2001 to January 14, 2002. The report is organized by county, and include the source of the discharge, the case number assigned to the site, the facility name and address, and whether MTBE was discharged to surface waters or detected in soil and/or groundwater. Attached is a copy of the report for your information and use. This report is sorted by city and street name. You can also download this report electronically through our web site at the address listed below, which will allow you to generate a customized listing of the report, as well as to download a complete listing of all MTBE discharge sites.

This report will be updated on a quarterly basis. You can access the Regional Board web site at http://www.swrcb.ca.gov/rwqcb4 or http://geotracker.swrcb.ca.gov/ to obtain additional information on many sites listed in the attached report.

We have made considerable effort, to allow the general public, responsible parties, consultants and all government agencies to view the locations and information related to all leaking underground storage tanks and production wells within our Region using GeoTracker via the Internet. To ensure that the locations of all production wells shown in GeoTracker is correct, we request that you obtain a password for the Re-position Tool to move a well through this web site http://www.geotracker.swrcb.ca.gov/wdemo/. Once at the web site, look at the upper right hand corner and click on the "Next Step" this will walk you through a series of demo pages that will show you how to move a well. At the end of the demo, it will provide you with a form to obtain your password. This password will allow you the exclusive right to verify and move your production well(s) to a correct location. It is necessary to have the correct location for all production wells so that we can properly prioritize our resource to ensure that all production wells are protected from groundwater contamination.

If you have any questions or need additional information, please contact Mr. David Bacharowski at (213) 576-6620 or Mr. Nhan Bao at (213) 576-6703.

Sincerely,

Original Signed By
