Programs administered by the Investigations and Enforcement Section (IES)

INVESTIGATIONS:

Investigate those matters involving unregulated entities where the allegation is indicative of criminal activity and/or the investigation is expected to be demanding and complex. The IES does not normally take a lead role in matters concerning confined animal facilities, sewage spills, or facilities that are regulated by site specific permit. The degree of involvement by the IES in those types of matters is dependent upon need and resources.

ENFORCEMENT:

The majority of enforcement matters pursued by the IES are done so through the offices of District Attorneys, the State Attorney General, and the US Attorney General. Enforcement may also be pursued administratively.

ADVISE, ASSIST, AND COORDINATE  INVESTIGATIONS AND ENFORCEMENT:

The Section Chief is responsible for coordinating, advising, and assisting other sections within the office in  investigative and enforcement matters. The purpose in doing so is to insure that enforcement activities are consistent, predictable, and fair.

ENVIRONMENTAL CRIME TASK FORCES:

IES represents the Regional Board's interest and involvement in local, state, and federal Environmental Crime Task Forces.

SPILL RESPONSE:

Responsible for responding to all incidents involving the release of material that impact or threaten to impact waters of the state. Report a Spill
