STATE WATER RESOURCES CONTROL BOARD

RESOLUTION NO. 98-055

APPROVAL OF THE 1998 CALIFORNIA SECTION 303(d) LIST AND TOTAL MAXIMUM DAILY LOAD PRIORITY SCHEDULE AND AUTHORIZING THE EXECUTIVE DIRECTOR TO TRANSMIT THE LIST TO U.S. ENVIRONMENTAL PROTECTION AGENCY FOR APPROVAL

WHEREAS:

  1. Section 303(d) of the Federal Clean Water Act requires the State to identify surface waters that do not meet applicable water quality standards with technology-based controls alone.
  2. The list of waters identified under Section 303(d) must also include a description of the pollutants causing impairment and a priority ranking of the waters for purposes of development of Total Maximum Daily Loads.
  3. The Regional Water Quality Control Boards have adopted their respective lists as required under Section 303(d) and submitted those lists to the State Water Resources Control Board (SWRCB).
  4. The State Board considered the Regional Board recommendations (Attachment 1) and the comments of numerous parties at the the May 14, 1998 SWRCB Workshop.
  • THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT:
  • The SWRCB approves the 1998 California Section 303(d) list of impaired surface waters as adopted by the Regional Boards with the revisions shown in Attachment 2, and authorizes the Executive Director to transmit the list to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for approval.
