Approved Backflow Prevention Assemblies

Prior to July 1, 2024, title 17 of the California Code of Regulations required backflow prevention assemblies, also known as backflow prevention devices, to be laboratory and field tested by an organization which had demonstrated its competency to the Division of Drinking Water. On July 1, 2024, the Cross Connection Control Policy Handbook (CCCPH) came into effect which updated the cross-connection control and backflow prevention standards for public water systems. As part of the CCCPH coming into effect the title 17 regulations related to cross-connection control and backflow prevention were repealed.

The CCCPH includes new standards for which backflow prevention assemblies must comply with in order to be used as part of a public water system. Organizations which provide the necessary laboratory and field evaluation tests which meet the CCCPH standards can be found on the Cross-Connection Control Policy Handbook (CCCPH) | State Water Resources Control Board.
