| Project Description: | Marin Municipal Water District (Marin Water) proposes to conduct emergency activities as part of the Nicasio Creek Emergency Activities Project (project) along Nicasio Creek near its confluence with Halleck Creek in Marin County. Areas at risk include Nicasio Elementary School (located only a few feet from the right bank of the creek) and surrounding private properties. Private landowners adjacent to project area have expressed serious concerns about safety during the upcoming rainy season, citing extensive buildup of vegetation and sediment in the channel, leading to accelerated bank erosion (due to lateral channel migration) and more frequent flooding. In addition, local citizens have expressed concerns for wells and septic systems located adjacent to the creek that are also vulnerable to flooding. Loss of these facilities would degrade public health and could result in adverse water quality conditions and contaminate the local groundwater supply. |
