Project Name:

Canyon Road Emergency Work
City/County:

Moraga, Contra Costa County
Comment Period:

1/14/2026 - 02/3/2026
Project Description:

This emergency repair project is a failing culvert located in the southern portion of the Town of Moraga, Contra Costa County. The culvert runs under Canyon Road that conveys flows from Indian Creek. During the 2023 rainy season, a failure was first identified in the existing 60-inchdiameter culvert, resulting in structural compromise of the roadway. Temporary trench plates were installed over the depressed roadway to allow continued traffic access and to protect the culvert and the road until the culvert can be replaced. However, during storm events in 2025 and 2026, the roadway condition has further deteriorated due to the banks on either side of the culvert, both upstream and downstream, continuing to erode/slump. Emergency repairs are required to ensure public safety until the culvert can be replaced and the banks fully restored as authorized by all necessary resource agency permits in the dry season.
