California Integrated Water Quality System Project (CIWQS)
The data must be in CIWQS in order to search on it. For example, when searching by program, the record must be assigned to a program to be returned in the search.
CIWQS Search Help
All Criteria is Optional
- Complete as many of the search criteria fields as you know. If you don’t complete any, all records will be returned.
- The more specific you are, the more limited your search will be and fewer records will be returned
CIWQS IDs
When you search by CIWQS ID number, if the record exists, it will open directly instead of presenting the results table.
The name you are searching for may not match the way the name is stored in the record. Search using the Naming Convention terminology found in the business rules, search using variations on the names, or broaden your search so you aren’t searching by the name.
Implicit Wildcard Searches
Except for the CIWQS ID numbers, all fields contain an implicit wild card search. This means that without typing any additional characters, CIWQS will look for the character string that you types anywhere in the field in which you are searching on. For example, if you type “SA” it will return San Francisco, Susan Kelly, and Colusa. This is not true for spaces at the end of your criteria. Spaces at the end of a string will be stripped out and not considered in the search. Spaces in the middle of your string will be considered.
Identifiers
- When searching using an identifier, you don’t have to select an identifier type. If you do not however, if you type in 1234, for example, the results will include records that have 1234 in the WDID, order number, CI number and other identifiers. If you select the identifier type, CIWQS will only look for the character string that you have typed within the identifier you have selected.
- Identifiers in Party, Place, Inspection, and Violation Modules search through linked Regulatory Measures.
Buttons Lead to Another Search
Some search screens contain buttons that take you to a search screen where you search for a value that becomes a search criterion in your original search. When using the buttons, be search to click on the “select” hyperlink in the right-hand side of the results table so that you are brought back to the original search screen.
Initiating the Search
After entering as many criterions as you want, press the “Enter” key or click the “Search” button.
Results
- Click the hyperlink in the results table to open the record. The Regulatory Measure and Place Module search results table also contain a “Glance Report” column. Clicking the links in this column opens an internal At-A-Glance Report. For more information regarding these reports, see the Fact Sheets in the Run Reports module.
- Up to 300 results may be returned. If you export the results to Excel, all (above 300) records are returned.
- Selecting the number of results to view per page sets the default for your next search.
- The search results table allows you to sort the results by clicking on the column heading of the column by which you want to sort. Clicking on the header twice sorts in reverse.
Refining Searches
If the results table does not contain the record you are looking for, click the “New Search” button to clear your criteria from the original search and start again. Click the “Refine Search” button to enable changes to your original criteria.
Right Clicking
If you are unsure if you are selecting the correct record, you can right click the link and open it in a new tab or window so you can easily return to the search results.
