April 18, 2020

To qualify for the operator certification examination, you must meet the educational requirement by the final filing date. The examination is given in March/April and October every year. Examinations are scheduled in locations throughout the state and each approved applicant is assigned to an examination site based on their mailing address.

Tentative examination sites are Fresno, Los Angeles, Monterey, SF Bay Area, Redding, Sacramento, Inland Empire, San Diego, San Luis Obispo, and Santa Rosa. Please keep in mind that these exam locations are subject to change.

Grading Process Explanation

There are concern within the water industry that the examinations are graded by students. It is the WWOCP and Technical staff from the Division of Financial Assistance that grade the exams (no outside personnel are involved in the grading process). Although the Technical staff work within the same agency, they also maintain their individual workloads.

It is important for you to transfer your multiple choice answers to the scantron answer sheet. If an answer is left blank, you will not receive credit for those questions. Be advised that you need to show your work to receive full or partial credit for all math problems.

If you have any questions regarding the exam process call the Examination Analyst, Valerie Gregory at (916) 341-5741.
