Racial equity is a Water Boards’ priority. We are working toward a future where race no longer predicts a person’s access to water or the quality of water resources they receive, where race does not predict professional outcomes for our employees, and where we consistently consider racial equity impacts before we make decisions.

State Water Board’s Racial Equity Action Plan: 2024 Annual Update
The State Water Board has completed its second year of implementing the Racial Equity Action Plan. The 2024 Annual Update, now available for review, highlights progress on the 53 actions prioritized for 2023–2025:

The State Water Board discusses the annual update as an informational item at its meeting on March 4, 2025. Interested parties are invited to share comments and feedback on the action plan's implementation. The State Water Board’s Racial Equity Action Plan is a compilation of goals, actions, and metrics intended to advance efforts to create a future where we equitably preserve, enhance, and restore California’s water resources and drinking water for all Californians, regardless of race, and where Water Board employees reflect the racial and ethnic diversity of California.
