Proposition 50 Funding for Public Water Systems

Proposition 50 (PDF), The Water Security, Clean Drinking Water, Coastal and Beach Protection Act of 2002, Water Code Section 79500, et seq., was passed by California voters in the November 2002 general election. Assembly Bill 1747 (PDF) was signed into law in August 2003, and took effect immediately, clarifying some of the Proposition 50 requirements. [To stay current, always refer to the actual Water Code, Division 26.5.]

Here's a summary of the Department of Public Health’s Drinking Water Program’s (DWP, now the Division of Drinking Water in SWRCB) Proposition 50 Grant Programs (PDF). DWP’s responsibility is for Chapter 3 (Water Security) and Chapter 4 (Safe Drinking Water) and for sections (b) and (c) of Chapter 6, which deal with treatment technology, through an interagency agreement with the Department of Water Resources.
